This is where we can all shine.

Any pertinent stories, anecdotes or tributes will be listed here.

There are all kinds of alumni stories.
Front and center are ones where after a number of years old friends and/or
sweethearts meet perchance at a reunion or function and rejoin together as before.
Sweet stories of sometimes unrequited love begun anew.

It serves as a suitable beginning to our alumni tales page...ENJOY!!

Unette Crawford Wall, Class of of 53, and Richard King, Class of 52
In Richards words; I almost did not attend this past reunion...

"Unette and I went to school together from Kindergarten on at the 5th Street School". We lived 2 blocks apart on 9th & 10th Streets. She was my 3rd grade girl friend. I took her to a movie at the Palace Theater at that time.

We met at the Wildcat Reunion last September, after 60 years, and have been together ever since!

Carol Phillips, class of 1956 and Pat Hail, class of 1956 both attended 5th Street Grammar School. Pat was aware of Carol in the 6th, 7th & 8th grades, but they never dated. Carol moved away during her Freshman and Sophomore years, but when she came back to Las Vegas the following summer, she and Pat met again at a friend's house and began dating. Later that summer, she went to California for a couple of weeks and when she returned, Pat was dating someone else.

Carol says Pat was her first big heartbreak! They both went their separate ways, married and had children. She figured Pat was history. They met at various reunions over the years and were always attracted to each other but they were both married, so nothing happened.

They met again at the Class of 1956's 50th reunion in October, 2006 and spent most of the weekend together. By then, he was divorced and she was a widow. They had their first official date the following Monday and went to Mt. Charleston. That started the romance all over again. Pat asked her to marry him at Christmas that year. They were married April 19th, 2007. Carol says "I kind of thought it was a little in a hurry but as he said "How much time do we have left". And he is right. We are having a wonderful time together and now the timing seems right."

They are doing lots of traveling, and enjoying their combined family of 11 children and 16 grandchildren. Carol says "You just never know what is around the corner for any of us. All we have to do is keep the doors open and miraculous things can happen".

Here's a cute story from Sister Barbara Sheahan, Class of 1950:

During the 1947 school year, she and five other kids were riding with Bonnie Brown Grimsley (class of 1950) in her beige Model A Ford. There were three kids in the car and three in the rumble seat. They had been to a drive-in movie and were cruising on their way home. Sister Barbara was sitting by the passenger door, and when Bonnie made a left turn, she went flying out the door. One of the other kids caught her just in time!

In my senior year, I think, my English teacher, Chink Coleman, had a Gibbon and used to share a story about it now and then. It also wore diapers. (reference to a recent news story)

I had a real weakness for a big, juicy hamburger from the Circus Room on Fremont Street. Well needless to say, I was always flying into class by the hair of my hamburger. One day Chink had had enough and he locked me out of class. The classrooms had glass windows on the doors and he just waved me goodbye. The next day I was on time after lunch and was my usual chipper self to which he remarked that he thought I would have an attitude for being locked out of class. I told him that it was my fault not his. He was a neat guy and anyone that would have a gibbon at home is ok in my book! -- Karen Sharkey class of 1966

I graduated from L.V.H.S. in '64.
On June 10, I will attend the graduation of my granddaughter from the Las Vegas Academy of the Performing Arts--located on the site of Las Vegas High School.

These are our first alumni tales and hopefully this may help spur memories that others might have about their days at LVHS.

As always contact me, Dave or Patty and let us help make those memories part of our legacy.
